I HAVE heard of a DVD player, just by strange coincidence. I have heard of burners, also. You don't seem to be of much help to me. The reason I don't burn dvd's is because it takes another 2-3-4+ ? hours just transocding the files. I want something I can record, burn, and take with me. 5-10 pounds is fine.

Panasonic DVD-CV50 read any computer DVD format?
Unfortunately, I don't see anything in there that would let you burn DVDs, but that doesn't mean it's not there. I've never known Gateway to sell a peripheral like that without hardware .... OT: Backing up DVD's
Before taking the -RW DVD out it must be finalized otherwise the PC cannot read the DVD. The so burned DVD has a system file and a folder in the top directory. Look for the BIG file(s). I've done it. I didn't want to finalize cause I happened to be using a DVD-R. Was about to record two things on to it.

Strange boy. I just argued against the "Buy something and it will run under Windoze". It will definitely run under some Windoze version...perhaps, if you are lucky. But if it will run fine and And you could buy a Digital VCR as well and would be able to burn DVDs on the fly without needing to boot anything.
